Neuschwanstein castle in the South of Germany has always been on my list of places to visit for photography. Rumoured to be the inspiration behind Walt Disneys castle, it certainly is quite spectacular.

Admittedly I wasn’t expecting the no drone signs and I didn’t have time to climb back down and try from further away, so we took the only other option and climbed as high as we could until the light forced us to stop.

Truly a magnificent place. Not just the castle or the robust German culture, the lakes and valleys were all stunning and the towns and villages are very charismatic. There is even another spectacular castle.

I visited in early autumn and morning mist lingers in the forests until almost midday, and by sunset the valleys are consumed by it. On the drive over it was torrential rain but we were committed and to our luck, it all cleared up when we arrived.

I was mesmerised throughout the one day trip I allowed myself to indulge in. Highly recommend it.
